A woman was compelled to fend off a dangerous hissing Alligator as it chases her and tries to bite her paddleboard.
Vicki Reamy Baker from Florida shared her frantic attempts to paddle away from the alligator while she was paddling in a middle of a lagoon at Silver Springs State Park, Florida.
The woman posted several videos and photos to her Facebook account where she can be seen pushing an alligator away with her paddle.
She captioned the video with: “Gator tried to eat my board. Someone has been feeding him and made him very dangerous. He was a big boy.”
In the video, she can be heard saying: “What are you doing? Get away from me, get away from me.”
As the alligator gets closer and closer to her board, Vicki then exclaims “oh [redacted], no, go away” before pushing the creature away using her paddle.
The riled-up gator then hisses at her as a man on loudspeaker says: “Mam, I would suggest backing up considering you just made him pretty mad.”
In a second clip, the alligator can be seen just a few feet away from Vicki’s board. The relaxed paddleboarder asked the reptile: “Why are you messing with me? Why are you trying to bite me? What the heck, man!”
She continued: “I’ve never had a gator come at me like that before. Look how close he is to me. He came after me and tried to bite me and my paddleboard.”
As the gator swam away from her she says: “Somebody’s been feeding that gator. Makes them very dangerous.”
Vicki is in the epicenter for alligator sightings nationwide, with Enjuris reporting one alligator for every 15 residents in the Sunshine State.
Last year, 12 alligator attacks happened in the state, with an average of seven unprovoked bites per year in the past decade, according to data from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
This wasn’t the only incident where people come across an alligator. Last month, TikTok user Jade under the name @capecoral.jade uploaded a clip she filmed while out fishing with a group of friends in the Everglades.
Jade was filming one of her friends who was holding a fishing line in the water and seemed to be attempting to find an alligator they had seen previously.
Jade asked, “Where did he go?” as she zoomed in and out on the water looking for the predator.
She later realized that the alligator was just feet away from her, camouflaged by the water. She screamed and yelled to her friends saying, “Oh my god, holy [redacted].”
While one of her friends added: “You do not ever sit down with your legs in the water.”
One of her friends replied: “Guys I’m not kidding, I almost [redacted] myself.”
Jade captioned the clip with: “Florida Everglades never fails to amuse and terrify.”
Meanwhile, a woman filmed a massive alligator blocking the road in Florida. The passenger inside the car asks: “What is wrong with Florida?”.
In the clip, the woman can be seen winding down her window to show the reptile chilling in the middle of the street.
The gator is part submerged on the water-logged tarmac as the rain pelts down, and it appears to be going nowhere despite drivers honking their horns to get it to move.
Florida alligator bite statistics date back to 1948, ranging around three major bites per year. The chance of someone being attacked is one in 3.2 million, according to Enjuris.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the increase in gator attacks likely has more to do with the rapid increase in Florida’s human population than it does with the overall number of alligators, which was about 1.3 million.
The FWC reports that there have been 413 documented alligator bites in Florida since 1948, 25 of which were fatal attacks.
