Lucy was behind the wheel of a BMW when she smashed into a family car with baby Eva strapped into a child seat in a 20mph zone, the court heard.

The collision happened at the Heol Goffa crossroads at about 9 PM on Friday night and involved a blue 3 series BMW and a blue Vauxhall Vectra.

Lucy appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court and has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Lucy, a single mother and full-time carer for her son, was remanded to Swansea Crown Court on November 12. Steve John, her lawyer, asked for her to be given bail so she can look after her four-year-old autistic son.

However, prosecutor Dennis Davies argued that “while she was in police custody, her front door was daubed with the words rot in hell you [redacted] using a permanent marker.”

“That was brought to the police’s attention along with the fact that dog excrement had been smeared on the house,” Davies added.

Moreover, the court heard that threats and “vitriolic comments” were made against Lucy within hours of the horrific crash.

Eva Maria’s heartbroken parents Carmen Elena and Florin, who came over to Britain from Romania three years ago, said that their “pain was indescribable” in an emotional post on social media after the crash.

“We have a broken heart,” Eva Maria’s mother wrote in her post. “It took all the happiness. It destroyed my family. The house is empty without her. Our souls are burned on the inside.”

The court was told that Lucy had been drowning her sorrows in a Llanelli pub on the sixth anniversary of her father’s death before driving to collect her mobile phone which she had left at her relative’s home.

Lucy’s blue BMW was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Vectra carrying the six-month-old baby.  Magistrates heard Lucy left the crash scene but waited nearby for police to arrive.

“All you could hear was the mother’s screams,” an eyewitness who was outside the court claimed. “One of my friends grabbed the baby from inside the car but you could tell it was already too late.”

“Everyone is distraught – how could it happen in a 20mph speed limit,” the witness added. “People are angry and they want justice for the innocent baby who had her whole life ahead of her.”

Another witness added that: “One car hit the other side on, and they went into a lamp post – I heard the impact. Everyone at the scene was in tears because they knew the little baby had died.”

Wales Senedd Member for Llanelli Lee Waters said that the incident was desperately sad.

“This is just so desperately sad,” Waters said. “I know the community will rally around the family but nothing can console them for this awful loss. I’m sure all our thoughts are with those closest to the little girl and her family.”

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said that they have since charged the defendant.

“We have this morning (October 10) charged 23-year-old Lucy Dyer, of Heulwen Terrace, Llanelli, with causing death by dangerous driving, and drink driving, in connection with the fatal road traffic collision at Heol Goffa, Llanelli, in which a child died.”
