A bright young woman was left permanently disfigured after her bitter ex-boyfriend poured acid on her face.
25-year-old Milad Rouf was arrested and jailed for 15 years after throwing acid at his ex-girlfriend and colleague, Dr Rym Alaoui, and causing her to suffer severe burns.
The incident took place back in May when Rouf, who is a failed medical student, disguised himself as a big Black woman before pouring sulfuric acid on his girlfriend.
According to the reports, the jealous ex-boyfriend pretended he was carrying soup in a container when he visited his former colleague’s apartment in Brighton, UK.
Once outside her residence, Rouf waited for the young doctor to leave her apartment before throwing acid in her face and body.
After the horrifying attack, which left the woman permanently disfigured, it was discovered that Rouf had started planning the attack shortly after his girlfriend broke up with him.
After raiding the man’s home in Cardiff, the authorities also came across a harrowing shopping list detailing the items that the 25-year-old used to disguise himself in an attempt to get away with his crime.
“You thought about what you wanted to do and how you were going to do it and planned it over weeks before carrying it out,” Judge Laing told Rouf during the sentencing.
“You knew full well what you were doing was wrong and you tried to evade responsibility for it to continue to pursue your medical career.”
Before sentencing the young man to 15 years in prison, the judge called the attack inexplicable and insisted that Rouf acted out of jealousy after his girlfriend had rejected him.
Meanwhile, Dr Alaoui revealed in her victim statement how the attack left her disfigured and fearing for her future.
“Since the day I was subject to this horrific attack, my life has changed. I live in pain and fear of my future wellbeing and financial hardship,” she expressed.
“The impact of the attack includes severe damage to my right eye which I am still unable to see out of. Damage to eyelids and damage to the skin on face neck and arm. I am unable to move my neck and close my eyelids. I have had five surgeries. I’m still trying to come to terms with more procedures and operation.
“I am unable to attend work or live my life. I have been robbed of years of my career and young adult life. The psychological effect had been colossal on me my family and loved ones.
“I cannot begin to imagine why somebody would commit such a premeditated and horrible attack. I cannot understand what was in his mind.”
