The corpse, believed to be the son of Theresa Balboa’s boyfriend Dalton Olson, was found stuffed inside a bag at a Best Western motel in Jasper, around 135 miles northeast of the child’s home city.

Balboa was arrested after police found her with the body believed to be that of 6-year-old Samuel Olson.

According to reports, police were tipped off about Balboa’s location.

The woman is currently in jail in Jasper County but she will be taken back to Houston, where she will face charges.

During a press conference, Houston Police Assistant Chief Heather Morris said that officers believe the body was that of Samuel, who was about to celebrate his 6th birthday.

“At this time, we believe the child to be Samuel, but we cannot confirm it is him, until the medical examiner makes that determination,” Morris said, adding that Balboa currently faces a charge of tampering with evidence.

Police confirmed that the woman was out on bond stemming from last year’s domestic violence case involving the victim’s father.

She has been accused of reporting the child missing after he disappeared for almost a month, with her home and car now being searched for evidence.

Samuel was last seen at his school on April 30. His grandmother said that she spoke to him on the phone around May 8 or 9.

Morris said Dalton, the boy’s father, is not considered a person of interest but investigators continue to speak with him.

Jasper Police Gerald Hall said that the remains had been inside the motel room for some time.
