Prince William Slammed Vile Trolls Who Targeted Black England Footballers After Euros Final


The Duke of Cambridge hits back at racists in social media who posted messages of abuse, targeting England’s three black footballers.

William —who watched the Euro final with his wife Kate Middleton and son Prince George — said he’s “sickened” at the vile trolls who targeted Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho after their penalty misses.

Manager Gareth Southgate told the press that the attacks are “unforgivable” and it’s “just not what we stand for”.

“I am sickened by the racist abuse aimed at England players after last night’s match,” the prince tweeted. “It is totally unacceptable that players have to endure this abhorrent behavior.”

“It must stop now and all those involved should be held accountable.”

After England’s heartbreaking loss to Italy, racist trolls started attacking three of the team’s black footballers with derogatory terms and emojis.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is among those to condemn the vile online abuse.

“This England team deserves to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media,” the Prime Minister said. “Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves.”

Meanwhile, the Met Police said that they will investigate the incident.

“We are aware of a number of offensive and racist social media comments being directed towards footballers following the Euro 2020 final,” Met Police said in a statement. “This abuse is totally unacceptable, it will not be tolerated and it will be investigated.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel took to Twitter and condemned the attack.

“I’m disgusted that England players who have given so much for our country this summer have been subject to vile racist abuse on social media,” Patel tweeted. “It has no place in our country and I back the police to hold those responsible accountable.”

According to Twitter, it has removed more than 1,000 posts that violated its policies within the past 24 hours after the game, as well as permanently suspending a number of accounts.
