China has recently been bombarded by an extensive outbreak of a new variant from the COVID-19 virus strain, with experts claiming that it is possibly the worst since Wuhan.
A total of 200 cases were detected since the 20th of July with possibilities of more rising as we speak. State media outlets confirmed the news, adding how it was linked to the Nanjing airport with the infections being confirmed as the very highly contagious Delta variant of the COVID-19 strain.
A total of five different Chinese provinces have been affected as well as the country’s capital of Beijing. The fact that it is being described as one of the most extensive outbreaks of the virus since the scary incident at Wuhan is truly worrisome for many as that caused a pandemic that the world continues to suffer from today.
State media also confirmed that since the country has taken great pride in its zero-tolerance method to measures used to contain the virus, the fact that it is now reporting 200 cases is truly alarming.
Reports suggest that the outbreak took place when a number of airport workers tested positive. They had cleaned out an airline that had reportedly arrived from Russia and ever since then, it has gone about spreading towards nearly five different provinces and that means 13 cities in total.
While the number of cases may appear small right now, experts are now making comparisons to the Wuhan outbreak which began in a similar manner in the year 2019.
Currently, the country’s authorities are doing whatever they can to help curb the virus’ spread and that includes suspending flights from the Nanjing airport. In the same way, the country’s massive population of 9.3 million citizens has been advised to routinely take PCR tests.
On the other hand, the country says that it has also forced hundreds of thousands into lockdown at their Jiangsu province, whose capital is Nanjing.
