A heartbreaking story involving a police officer and his alleged rape victim is making headlines in West Yorkshire.
According to local media reports, the police sergeant reportedly raped the woman who was about 14 years younger, after the duo went out for a round of drinks. Moreover, recent evidence in the case proved how the police sergeant took her home and began sexually assaulting her on the sofa.
The heartbreaking incident left the 21-year-old woman pregnant while the officer involved has denied all claims relating to rape and sexual assault by penetration.
While the incident originally took place in 2016, the court has reopened the case as both sides presented their side of the story. The court heard the officer deny all the charges and claims that were placed on him. Similarly, he claims that he was not even on duty when he met the woman and during the time of the supposed attack.
Ben Lister who is a currently serving officer in West Yorkshire says that he neither raped nor sexually assaulted the woman, despite the many complaints and charges placed against him.
He even went on to add how the two met over a random round of drinks and were there with two of their mutual friends. “It was a bank holiday and the four of us got really drunk,” he explained.
The duo got back to the property and began close to one another as the other two friends went up to their rooms and fell right asleep. However, the alleged victim went to sleep downstairs in the living room sofa and that is where the alleged attack took place, the court heard.
“He dragged me off of the sofa and had all types of sex,” she revealed. The court also heard about how the young woman was not willing to indulge in sexual affairs but was forced to do so, despite taking her consent into consideration. And the next day, she found herself lying all alone, undressed.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor argues that there is strong DNA evidence that the father of the child is Ben Lister but the cop says that the woman was never too drunk to give her consent.
