TikTok user with 1 million followers has shot and killed her high school friend in a horrifying accident, Unilad reports.
Mary Anne Oliver-Snow, who goes by “yandere.freak” on TikTok, was drinking with some friends at her home in Houston when she allegedly brought out a gun.
The incident took place on January 17 when Mary Anne invited over friends, including Helen Rose Hastings, to her home in Houston, Texas.
The group began to drink and the TikToker allegedly decided to bring out a gun. The gun apparently was left there at the house by her ex-boyfriend.
According to Mary, she thought the gun was unloaded at the time, but the gun went off and Helen was killed.
According to the court filing, Oliver-Snow “did then and there unlawfully, recklessly cause the death of Helen Rose Hastings by pointing a handgun at the complainant and pulling the trigger”.
Mary has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the accident, which she says was caused by a mistake.
Police say she has been “cooperative” and willingly gave a statement, in which she insisted she didn’t know the gun was loaded and that it would shoot.
Mary told police that she had known Helen since they were in high school and that by January, Helen was staying at her home “for a couple of months”.
The TikTok added that they both enjoyed Batman’s fictional universe and “cosplaying” as the characters. But sadly, that fantasy may have played a part in Helen’s death.
Police revealed more information saying that “the Defendant stated they were watching Gotham and said she was drunk, laughing, messing around and told her friends she had a gun like Penguin does.”
“The defendant said the complainant came up to her and was joking around telling the defendant, oooh shoot me,” the report continued. “As they were laughing the Defendant said oh ok, and said it went off.”
After her arrest, Oliver-Snow was released on a $20,000 bond, Dexerto reported. An evidence exchange in her case is scheduled for 21 October.
Helen Hastings had been a freshman and attending Oberlin College in Ohio at the time of her death. In Oberlin’s school newspaper, friends remembered her for her “laughter, enthusiasm, and compassion”.
Zach Gershon, a fellow freshman said that “Helen had this really bubbly, really energetic personality and a good sense of humor.”
