A 19-year-old mother who made headlines after she left her baby girl to starve to death for six days as she partied her nights away is now going to jail.
However, the mother appeared to break down into tears when the verdict was recently confirmed as the court granted her jail for nine years, calling her behavior irresponsible.
Verphy Kudi chose late-night drinking and hangouts with friends over her daughter’s health and wellbeing, which ultimately resulted in her shocking and tragic death. Little Asiah Kudi passed away at her own residence in Brighton, late last year in what is being termed as one of the most horrifying incidents imaginable.
Recent footage showed the mum on CCTV footage leaving her apartment on her 18th birthday and then going back after nearly six whole days. Moreover, recent details from the case showed how the mother lived it up at nightclubs with DJs making special announcements for her birthday too.
That whole time, the young child lay alone at home unattended and without any food supplies, despite being just 20 months old. The distance between the mother and daughter was 50 miles but the mum did not feel the need to check up on her daughter during those six days.
Therefore, reports claim that 20-month-old Asiah passed away from influenza as well as starvation after she was left all alone without any care. The exact duration as revealed in the courtroom by the prosecutors included five days, 21 hours, and 58 minutes to be exact.
When the mum decided to return, she found her daughter unresponsive and hence feared for the worst. On that note, paramedics were called in and they revealed how the daughter was in the most helpless and distressed condition, lying over the floor.
After receiving a jail sentence of 9 years, the mother broke down into tears and was immediately escorted away by the courtroom’s staff.
