A white college lecturer is in the line of fire after telling her students that she is sick and tired of talking about the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Hailing from upstate New York, the white teacher is a faculty member at the SUNY State College in Buffalo. New reports confirmed how she is currently being probed by the educational institution after the highly insensitive comment. Moreover, what really raised questions in so many people’s minds is how the comment was directly made towards a class that comprises primarily of ‘black’ students.
Recently, a video made its way towards Instagram which was actually recorded in the fall season for a writing course, confirmed Buffalo News.
The part time lecturer was identified as Erica Cope. She questioned her students about what they felt regarding her comment. “This is actually me, but I am speaking very honestly, and I want all of you guys to respond with honest intentions regarding what you think and what you feel about this,” she added.
“I am really sick of talking about the Black Lives Matter Movement, ok, I said it!” the teacher boldly exclaimed.
On that note, the students questioned the part time lecturer on why she felt that way. However, Erica failed to respond to them and answered by saying that she simply didn’t wish to get into something like that.
One student named Jahnay Morehead actually went on to record the teacher’s comments that she made during their writing course in fall. Morehead spoke to the press about the matter, mentioning how the teacher behaved in a very insensitive manner, knowing that the majority of students were black. Also, the teacher’s comments were of the nature that they could potentially lead to her getting canceled.
After the comment was made, the students kept questioning the teacher about her stance in the situation and train of thought that led to it all. But it was clear that she wished to let it go and hence tried her level best at changing the topic of discussion too.
