Buckingham palace is outraged after Queen Elizabeth’s II funeral plans were leaked to the media.
According to Metro UK, a formal investigation about the top-secret leak could be launched in a matter of days.
Reports claimed that members of the Royal Family are furious and officials are trying to figure out who leaked the confidential documents.
It is assumed the Queen’s funeral plans were revealed from Whitehall, which is likely to be rather awkward for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson when he visits Her Majesty in Balmoral Castle this weekend, Metro UK reports.
The leaked documents show a full 10-day program for the death of the UK’s longest-serving monarch, which is codenamed Operation London Bridge.
The plan includes the accession to the throne of Prince Charles, culminating in a state funeral.
Large crowds are expected to descend on the capital to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state before a Westminster Abbey service.
The documents also show memos revealing concerns over London becoming massively stacked as millions are expected to flock to pay their respects.
The plan also includes notes on flags having to be lowered within 10 minutes of the official announcement and Prince Charles touring the UK after being declared King – codenamed as Operation Spring Tide.
The top-secret plan was supposed to be reserved for a select group of government officials and selected reporters until it was leaked to Politico and exposed to the world earlier today.
Now, the Cabinet Office will try and figure out which version of the documents –which are updated regularly– were leaked.
Metro UK reported that they will also try to find out who’s the culprit, and that they are now working and sharing some of their plans with police, local government, Whitehall departments, and the Royal household.
Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, who previously worked for Prince William, is not expected to make a final decision on a full investigation before next week.
“Neither the Palace nor the Government is particularly happy when leaks of this nature occur,” a government source told the Mirror. “But it is more annoying than damaging to the plans.”
At the time of this writing, Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the leak but royal sources said there was ‘widespread condemnation’ of the sharing of such sensitive details.
“I think it is awful and cruel to release the top-secret plans about the Queen’s death,” Royal author Angela Levin said. “Where are our morals?”
