So apparently the Charlottesville City Council is looking for votes on removing the statue which commemorates Lewis and Clark because of the position of it.
Well, if you look at the statue you’ll see the problem there. It is the positioning of the Native American tracker Sacagawea.
In Virginia City, a lot of people proposed this decision this Thursday. Protestors locally proposed and stated that the statue is basically quite offensive. Although it was placed in 1919. And is there in the same place ever since with no prior offended people suggesting to take it down?
Native Americans Stand For The Removal Of Statue
Council members met some of the Native Americans and Sacagawea’s descendants for this decision.
According to the 13 News Now, they noticed this man showed us slavery. They also call these heroes but in fact, they made slavery as normal. The Native American community has, of course, stood by their strong decision of taking this down as they believe it ‘genuinely destroys our spirit.
The Fuss About Lewis And Clark
Did you guys know that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are the two biggest explorers and America’s famous historical figures? The teachers still teach in schools as they are the most amazing people. Who took a 2-year expedition across America’s west side.
This happened back in 1804 to 1806. Like typical white men, they too took pride in being recognized throughout their journey as someone specials for the color of their skin and well, of course, their ethnicity since they were both Caucasian.
Story Of Sacagawea and Why Native Americans Are Offended By The Statue
According to our resources, Native Americans although felt good for decades that Sacagawea; the Native American woman who was a Shoshone woman of the tribe and she helped Lewis and Clark in the navigation of their tour across the West side of America.
She also helped them in making some of the most important cultural contacts on their way.
However, looking keenly and with care, you can now see its odd now. The reason behind it is that we see Lewis and Clark are as strong and mighty, standing tall as if they were the leaders and navigators. Whereas, in fact, it was Sacagawea. So she now a statue crouching down. A lot of people call it slavery.
People see the Charlottesville statue with these two men with rifles and Sacagawea as something less than them.
It is quite offensive, let’s be honest.Do we mean that in the most polite way possible when we say the statue-makers knew exactly what they were doing? But the nation at that time as well as now (until a year back) wasn’t ‘woke enough’ to realize the hidden agenda behind it.
People Claim The Position Of Statue Is Quite ‘Problematic’
The people are defending the monument and requesting not to take it down. They say that since she was a tracker, Sacagawea obviously did crouch down on her arms and knees to look for trails. And ways as well as identifying plants and berries.
Since she spent most of her time distinguishing plants and berries on the ground whether which one is edible. And which is poisonous or if she can use for medicine, so the statue is basically quite realistic.
US Congressman Said A Few Words About The Unsolved Decision
Seeing mixed opinions of the people of Charlottesville. US Congressman Bob Barr writes on his Twitter: ‘The people who rule the City of Charlottesville are fools for real. They intend to remove the statue of Lewis and Clark, why? Because they see a crouching Sacagawea figure as subservient while she’s just doing so because she’s a tracker and leading the explorers.’
