According to media reports, the Duke of Edinburgh’s body will remain there, until it is later transferred by a lift upstairs. This event will take place when the Queen dies, and hence Prince Philip will be laid to rest in a side chapel, right next to her.

This way, the devoted couple will lay in peace together, which is the same resting place as the Queen’s father, her mother, and the ashed of her sister, Princess Margaret, mentioned experts.

The vault has enough room for around 44 royals, claimed inside sources. As far as the dimensions are considered, it is about 70feet long and 28 feet wide. In the same way, it was space for about 32 bodies along its two sides and around 12 towards the center. Before the vault was created, the Royals’ bodies were placed somewhere else.

Local media outlets spoke about how yesterday’s royal funeral was an exact replica of what went on during George V’s funeral, which took place in the year 1936. This was attended by the Queen when she was just 9 years old.

During that time period, she held her mum’s hand during the funeral ceremony, walking up the Chapel’s steps, right before witnessing her grandad’s casket be lowered down 6ft into the vault.

As far as the chapel’s design is concerned, it is renowned for its black and white themed marble tile floor. This section also possesses a rectangular section towards the front side where the communion table is located. This opens up and allows an electric lift to lower down funeral plinths into the giant Royal Vault.
