A woman who caused an explosion that resulted in $9 million worth of damage is now suing a bar for serving her alcohol.
Daniella Leis was driving home from a Marilyn Manson concert on the night of August 14, 2019, when she crashed her car into a house at 450 Woodson Avenue in London.
After crashing into the property, her Ford Fusion broke a gas line and set triggered a huge explosion that caused up to $9 million worth of damages.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and managed to pull Leis from the wreckage.
According to reports, the gas leak caused a house to blow up and set fire to other nearby properties, throwing debris almost 200 meters away.
The explosion destroyed four hours and left seven people injured, with two firefighters suffering ‘life-altering injuries.’
In October 2020, Leis pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
She was sentenced to three years in jail, along with a three-year driving ban.
Justice George Orsini acknowledged that she had pleaded guilty, had no history of criminal records, and expressed remorse for the incident.
But now, Leis is suing the Ovations Ontario Food Services company for serving her alcohol at the Budweiser Gardens.
In her statement, she alleged that the bar shares some liability for the civil lawsuits made against her after the crash.
They claim that employees of Ovations continued to serve alcohol “when they knew or out to have known that she was intoxicated or would become intoxicated.”
Leis and her father Shawn are currently facing six lawsuits in relation to the explosion.
She now wants to prove that the company would be responsible for ‘any awards or judgment amounts’ stemming from lawsuits.
