Five hours later, the family decided to open the casket to change her clothes but found the elderly woman gasping for air.

Speaking about the moment they realized his mother was still alive, Gilbert said: “My mom started to move her left hand, to open her eyes, her mouth, she struggled to breathe.”

One of the relatives shared a video of the incident on social media. It showed Montoya lying in a coffin gasping for air as another mourner complained that the ambulance they called had not arrived yet.

Firefighters then arrived and transferred the elderly woman onto a stretcher and rushed her to a hospital.

“My mom is on oxygen, her heart is stable,” Gilbert said. “The doctor pinched her hand and she reacted, they tell me that’s good because it means she is reacting little by little.”
