Piper Ayers, who identifies as a woman but is still a man legally speaking, claimed she broke down into tears after bouncers at Dixie Roadhouse in Cape Coral, Florida, stopped her from using the ladies’ restroom and kicked her out of the club.

According to Ayers, she was wearing a skirt, high heels, and a crop top when security officers booted her out of the nightclub and made her feel “worthless.”

Piper also insisted the staff were acting in contradiction to the sign outside the nightclub that reads: “If you are racist, sexist, homophobic, or just a jerk… don’t come in.”

“This is who I am. You get laughed at, you get scoffed. We decided to come down here to Dixie and just have a little fun,” Ayers said in an interview with NBC2.

“I go to the bathroom, next thing you know they’re saying something to me. The next thing you know, they grab ahold of me and start shoving me out the front door.”

Fighting back her tears while recalling the traumatic experience, Ayers added: “I just felt worthless. Like I wasn’t a person, or I didn’t have feelings or emotions. Just no respect.”

Speaking out was also Piper’s friend, TJ Jackson, who claimed that one of the security guards told him they don’t allow men in the women’s bathroom when he confronted them about his friend’s treatment.

The matter was eventually elevated to the nightclub’s manager, and though Ayers presented her ID she couldn’t achieve much since she hasn’t yet officially changed her gender and name.

Following the incident at the nightclub, people were left divided. While some slammed the nightclub and accused the staff of being homophobic, others suggested Ayers shouldn’t have used the ladies’ bathroom because she is legally speaking still a male.
