JUST IN: U.S. Swimming Champion Jamie Cail Died Suddenly In Virgin Islands, Her Death Prompts Police Investigation


A criminal investigation has been launched following the sudden death of US swimming champion Jamie Cail, 42.

According to reports, she was found unresponsive on the floor in the home she shared with her boyfriend on February 21.

Cail’s boyfriend told police he found her when he returned home from a bar at around 12:08 am.

The boyfriend and a friend rushed Cail to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic but she died only two hours later.

It has been confirmed that the case is ‘presently under investigation’ by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

The Virgin Islands Police Department said in a statement: “On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 12:08 a.m., a male left a local bar to check on his girlfriend at their residence. Upon his arrival, he discovered his girlfriend on the floor.

“With assistance from a friend, the male was able to get the female to a nearby vehicle and transported the female to the Myrah Keating-Smith Clinic. Once at the clinic, CPR was rendered and 911 was notified, however, the female succumbed to her ailment.”

The statement added: “This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.”

Cail still holds a number of swimming records that she set as a teen.

In 1997, she won a gold medal as part of the U.S. relay team at the Pan Pacific Championships. She then represented the country as part of the national B team at the FINA World Cup in Brazil in 1998 and 1999.

According to ABC News, she also became a key member of the University of Maine’s women’s swim team in the 2000/2001 academic year.

A family friend told WMUR that Cail “had a huge heart. She was really loving and kind and well-loved and popular on the island and everybody knows her.”

The friend added: “Everyone from the, you know, older generational, local families to the younger people, everybody loved her.”
