Sam Smith, who has asked fans to use the pronouns ‘they/them,’ has faced backlash after their performance at Sunday night’s Grammys as people believe that they were’ worshipping the dev*l’.
The 30-year-old singer recently dropped their latest music video for a new single ‘I’m Not Here to Make Friends.’
Although there are many other artists such as Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Madonna who have previously released provocative music videos, Smith’s new track drew criticism.
Smith’s video features many different attires. In one scene, they can be seen with scantily-clad dancers sporting only a corset, underwear, platform heels and a matching tiara.
Despite the backlash, the singer had a fiery performance at the 65th annual Grammy Awards in LA.
But people were quick to describe the ‘Unholy’ performance as ‘sat*nic,’ with many saying that the 30-year-old was ‘worshipping the dev*l.’
Performing with collaborator Kim Petras, they danced their hit track ‘Unholy’ – a single that went on to scoop the Grammy for Best Pop Duo / Group Performance.
Petras received a standing ovation for being the first trans woman to get the award.
The two gave it their all during their live performance, with Smith sporting a hat with horns and a bright red bodysuit.
Some viewers lost it when they saw fire, red lights, cages and provocative dancing, with one Twitter user writing: “Sam Smith dresses as the dev*l in Sat*nic performance of ‘Unholy’ during The Grammys. This is exactly why nobody watches this s**t anymore. #Dem*nic.”
Another said: “Sam Smith and Kim Petras performing their disgusting song titled ‘Unholy’ at the 2023 Grammys. I didn’t want to post this video but I have to expose how sat*nic the music industry is. This is so dem*nic. Stop listening to this GARBAGE. It’s witchcraft! Seek Jesus.”
Senator Ted Cruz also took to social media and wrote: “This…is…ev*l.”
