Sam Smith was reportedly heckled in the New York streets by a woman who called the singer ‘evil’ and ‘demonic’ because of their fiery performance at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Kim Petras and Smith, both 30, performed ‘Unholy’ at the 65th award ceremony. While singing and dancing, the stage was illuminated with red lighting and dancers were performing inside metal cages.
Smith was seen wearing horns and a hat.
Smith and Petras won the award for Best Pop Duo but was immediately slammed by viewers.
According to reports, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and CBS received 18 complaints about the performance.
Some conservatives, including US senator Ted Cruz, took to Twitter and expressed their opinions about the singers’ performance.
“This is… evil,” Sen. Cruz wrote in response to commentator Liz Wheeler’s post that read: “Don’t fight the culture wars, they say. Meanwhile, demons are teaching your kids to worship Satan. I could throw up.”
Jack Lombardi II also agreed, writing: “The greatest act the Devil ever pulled was to convince the world he doesn’t exist – and now he hides in plain sight.”
It seems like the commotion has moved from online to real life as Smith was heckled in the streets in New York City by a furious woman.
In the viral video, which was filmed by a passerby, Smith can be seen wearing a blazer and navy blue jeans. A woman can be seen angrily shouting: “You belong in hell!”
“Sam Smith belongs in hell. You demonic, twisted, sick b*****d!” the woman went on.
The singer stayed composed, putting their phone away and simply walked by without saying anything.
“Leave the kids alone, you sick f***er,” the woman continued. “You’re evil,” she added.
After seeing the video, many internet users expressed discomfort with the woman’s attitude.

One person commented: “This is insane I hope sam smith is doing okay mentally the way masses of people hate them for just being themselves is disgusting I hope they have a good support system.”
Another said: “Now be so serious. NO ONE deserves this kind of treatment no matter how much u dislike them.”
