The 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee who fell in love with her UK sponsor during her stay with the family has denied being a homewrecker.
Sofiia Karkadym from Lviv moved in with Tony Garnett and his wife Lorna and their two young children in Bradford, England, on May 4.
But only ten days after welcoming her into their home, Mr. Garnett left his wife for Sofiia and moved with her into his parent’s house.
Miss Karkadym denies being a homewrecker and insists that she’s not to blame for the breakdown of the couple’s relationship. She also blames Mrs. Garnett for having ‘constant suspicions.’
“That never crossed my mind. I liked the family. I spent a lot of time with Lorna and I tried to help her. But she was two-faced,” she told The Sun.
“Her constant suspicions, the tension, it just pushed me and Tony closer together.
“She created this situation by constantly suggesting something was going on when it wasn’t. So this is her fault.”
Mrs. Garnett said she was left heartbroken after her husband left her for the 22-year-old.
“She didn’t care about the devastation that was left behind. Everything I knew has been turned on its head in the space of two weeks,” the mother-of-two told The Sun.
She also told the news outlet that she had reservations about the plan to take her in but felt it was the right thing to do.
“I decided it was the right thing to do to put a roof over someone’s head and help them when they were in desperate need,” Mrs. Garnett expressed.
“And this is how Sofiia has repaid me for giving her a home.”
Mr. Garnett explained that he and Sofiia immediately developed a connection. Only ten days after welcoming their guests, the two packed their bags and moved in with his parents.
“I am so sorry for what Lorna is going through, this was not her fault and it was not about anything she did wrong,” he said. “We never set out to do this, it wasn’t planned and we didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
