A photo of a four-year-old girl with a heartbreaking note has been found hidden on a plane years after she passed away.
Grace Kelly dreamed of flying abroad before she died from a rare kidney tumor in 2014.
Only weeks after her passing, her grieving grandparents decided to hide a photo of her behind the plane’s bathroom mirror along with a message.
“Our dear grandchild, Grace 4 years old. Taken from us in 3 weeks with a very rare liver cancer. (November 2014),” the note read.
“Our little angel had always wanted to fly – so she flies with Monarch – hidden away for as long as possible.
“Happy travels darling Grace, you made our life just perfect for all too short a time.
“God bless. Grandma and Grandad.”
The photo has just been discovered by Frontier Airlines maintenance workers in Florida.
The workers decided to leave the picture and the letter where it was found so Grace can continue to fly around the world.
One of the maintenance staff told a flight attendant about it and got in touch with Grace’s mother, Dr. Jen Kelly.
Speaking to the Worcester News, Jen said: “I am so proud of Grace and all that she has managed to achieve. I always knew that Grace would move mountains.”
She continued: “This is not the way anyone would have chosen, but now Grace is not only moving mountains but soaring above them too. She never had the chance to fly in a plane, so to know she is flying around high in the clouds is truly special.”
Jen, who founded The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust in 2016 in her daughter’s memory, thanked Frontier Airlines for keeping Grace’s photo on board.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has made this possible for our girl,” she added.
