The parents of the 23-year-old man who is romantically linked to a 23-year-old woman who is ‘trapped in the body of an 8-year-old’ have defended him.
TLC’s ‘I Am Shauna Rae’ star Shauna Rae Lesick revealed in the show that it can be tricky to find true love because of her height.
But she introduced fans to Dan Swygart, 26, from the UK, after he contacted her after seeing the show and even sent her flowers.
It seems like the two immediately hit it off and went on a date at an escape room before Dan met Shauna’s mother and stepfather.
The 23-year-old’s stepfather, Mark Schrankel, said of her relationship with Swygart: “I think Dan would be a really good match for Shauna because he’s very smart (and) adventurous. Shauna’s smart but not very adventurous.”
But 3ft 10 tall Shauna’s mother was a bit apprehensive as she explained that she’s worried her daughter might attract pedoph*les.
Dan has become the subject of criticism on social media, with many calling him a ‘creep’ for being attracted to Shauna.
But his parents were quick to jump to his defense and said there is no romantic relationship between the two. In an interview with Daily Mail, his mother Helen said: “Daniel rang me and told me the story has gone everywhere. They are just friends. There is no relationship.”
His father Steven also said that his son had appeared in the series but that was the extent of the relationship between his son and Shauna.
“He looks at her and thinks she is a tremendous person despite her disability, she’s only small,” he said.
Dan also took to Instagram to defend his relationship with the 23-year-old, saying: “It’s very important to remember that Shauna is an incredible 23-year-old woman who has a disability.
“So as you are building a connection with her, it’s important to acknowledge her disability and look past that and build it with who she is as an individual.
“She’s this incredible, inspiring 23-year-old woman who just happens to be a little bit short.”
