A grieving mother managed to track down ten Mexican cartel members who kidnapped and murdered her daughter.
Miriam Rodriguez’s story was documented by The New York Times in which it was revealed that she sought repercussions after her 20-year-old daughter, Karen, was taken away by armed men on January 23, 2014.
It was discovered that the kidnappers were members of the Zetas drug cartel and were keeping Karen for ransom.
According to The Times, Miriam followed the cartel’s demands and even took out a loan to get her daughter back.
She also decided to disguise herself as a healthcare worker, an election official, and a pollster to collect information to let the police put one of the cartel members in prison, who then gave the names of those responsible for the abduction.
The 18-year-old gang member eventually revealed Karen’s location but she had already been killed and her body was found at an abandoned ranch where more corpses were discovered.
Since then, Miriam decided to avenge her daughter and tracked down those who were responsible for her death.
Some of the men had tried to live ordinary lives, with one becoming a car salesman and another becoming a babysitter.
Miriam’s persistence allowed her to take down ten people who were responsible for Karen’s death.
Sadly, her pursuit of justice didn’t have a happy ending as she became a target and was killed on Mexico’s Mother’s Day in 2017.
According to reports, a group of men broke into her home and shot her 12 times.
Her tragic death came only weeks after she had taken down her last target.
City officials paid tribute to the brave mother by placing a bronze plaque honoring her in the central plaza.
