A 44-year-old mother who lost an arm and a leg after being run over by two Tube trains was told she ‘could have died at least ten times’ but the thought of her family kept her going.
Sarah de Lagarde from north London was returning home from work when she lost her footing and fell through the gap between the platform edge and the train.
She lay on the tracks for 15 minutes before someone finally heard her crying for help.
Three months after the horrific accident, de Legarde told Good Morning Britain that it was a ‘terrible thing to happen’ but she felt ‘so privileged and grateful that I am alive.’
“I’m good. I’m feeling fine, I mean obviously this is a terrible thing to happen to one but I’m so privileged and grateful that I am alive,” the mother-of-two told Rob Rinder and Charlotte Hawkins.
“That night I was told I could have died at least ten times, it was quite an accident to have happened but once you survive that, I was absolutely excited to be alive.”
De Legarde had been traveling from work when she fell asleep on the train and missed her stop.
But when she rushed to get off at High Barnet station, she fell down the gap between the platform edge and the train.
She said she was left ‘bloodied and mangled’ when the train hit her and was run over again by another train.
It took 15 minutes for someone to hear her cries for help before she was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital.
She continued: “The joy is there so if you think about it my family could have spent Christmas without me, the fact I am alive and that I am here is incredible.
“Everything has an extra sparkle to it.”
