A man has faced a backlash after revealing he had proposed to his girlfriend right after her mother’s funeral.

The 25-year-old man in his viral post revealed that he had been planning on proposing to his girlfriend, 20, for quite some time and that he could just never find the right moment to get on his knee and pop the question.

He also claimed that his girlfriend’s mother had always despised him and that she would never approve of him and his relationship with her daughter.

Recently, however, the mother fell ill and was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. After spending the last few weeks with her family, the woman passed away.

During her funeral, the man kept on thinking about his plans before deciding that same day was the right moment to propose to his grieving girlfriend.

“A couple hours into the wake, I finally took my girlfriend aside and said my prepared speech that was in my head since the moment I decided I wanted her to be my wife, then I got down on one knee and asked if she wanted to marry,” he explained.

“Her response was ‘Are you f***ing tone deaf?’ I looked at her confused, not really processing what was wrong with the moment. If anything this could have been metaphor of sorts. Right? Her mom dies so suddenly and now I’m here proposing over the prospect of ‘life is too short’ and ‘you only live once’ and making the most of it.

“I guess I can see how I would be the a**hole due to the dirt still being fresh but honestly I couldn’t see a better moment than right then because we were finally free of her mother’s judgement and be able to be together without her mom’s opinions on the matter.”

The man admitted, however, the talking about what had happened with his friends earned him the title of a psychopath. Nevertheless, he doesn’t believe he actually went over the line.

“I had good intentions when I proposed, and doesn’t every girl just wanna get married to the love of her life?” he concluded.

After sharing his thoughts on the internet, the man was quickly branded as insensitive, inconsiderate, and psychopathic by most users.
