A man has left people mortified after he was seen eating raw chicken after grocery shopping.
The shopper was caught on camera enjoying his raw chicken drumsticks fresh from the supermarket packaging at a shopping center in Westfield.
The photo was posted on Reddit where internet users expressed their disgust.
The photos of the man eating the uncooked meat was then posted to Instagram where users can see that the man was barefoot.
It is not clear what happened to the man after eating his meal.
One person user commented: “Is that raw chicken? Please tell me the photo is deceptive and it’s pieces of ham rolled up or something.”
Another wrote: “Can someone please check to see if this man is still alive?”
A third said: “The chicken might be raw but he is definitely cooked.”
Someone else joked: “He doesn’t have time to waste sitting down to eat, or putting shoes on, or cooking his food. Few understand this grindset.”
Many thought the shopper might have a reason for eating raw chicken.
“Someone is trying to get a few sick days,” one person said.
“If he’s trying to lose weight, this will probably work,” another wrote.
“He wants a week off,” a third said.
According to CDC, “raw chicken s often contaminated with Campylobacter bacteria and sometimes with Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens bacteria.”
About one million people in the US get sick from eating contaminated poultry every year, the CDC estimates.
Around 1 in every 25 packages of raw chicken available at supermarkets are contaminated with salmonella.
If eaten, it would cause a severe case of food poisoning, which comes with vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.
