A grieving husband made headlines after revealing he bought a life-size silicone dummy that looks like his late wife to cope with his loss.
65-year-old Tapas Sandilya from India is a retired civil servant who lost his wife during the pandemic back in 2021.
As the grieving widow admitted, his wife died alone at the hospital because he was unable to be by her side due to strict restrictions put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Following the death of the love of his life, Sandilya ordered a life-size silicone dummy that looked exactly like his late wife.
He also explained that the doll helps him cope with the loss and that he lets her sit in her favorite spot on the sofa while combing her hair and letting her watch the TV.
Sandilya also revealed it was his wife’s wish to be commemorated in the form of a life-size statue ever since she saw very realistic figures at a Hindu temple they visited.
“Indrani had told me of her desire for a similar statue of her if she happened to pass away before me. I just wanted to fulfil her wish,” he said.
Now, the statue honoring Indrani rests at the man’s home dressed in her silk sari in the woman’s favorite spot on the sofa.
While the grieving man admitted that his family didn’t like the idea, he decided to go through with it saying having a statue of his wife was not much different from people keeping photos of deceased loved ones on the walls in their homes.
“Nothing less than Indrani’s actual facial expression would do for me. I, after all, lived with her for 39 years,” the loyal man said.
