The Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather Dubrow, 54, has revealed that her youngest child just came out as transgender.

54-year-old Heather Dubrow took to social media and shared the news with her followers, saying that her 12-year-old now goes by the name Ace.

In her Instagram post, which was shared on International Sons Day, she shared a photo of ‘Ace’ written in the sand and wrote: “It’s International sons day! We love you, our youngest son, Ace.”

Her post continued: “Our job as parents is to give our kids a safe and supportive environment so they can grow up as healthy, happy, confident, independent humans.

“Since Ace is a 12 year old child, with a long life ahead of him – we will let him tell his own story someday if he chooses to do so. All we can say is Ace, we love you so much and we are proud to be your parents. Your brother and sisters love and support you too.”

Her post received thousands of supportive messages from fans, with one person commenting: “The fact that I tear up at this amount of acceptance is sad because that means there’s still SO many children who don’t get to experience the same so thank you for being that person for them.”

Another wrote: “Best. Mom. Ever. There is no greater gift you can give to your child than loving them for exactly who they are.”

Heather and her husband Terry are also parents to a 16-year-old daughter Kat, and 19-year-old twins – a daughter Max and son Nick.

“We’ve got four kids, they are different genders, different sexualities, and all at interesting places in their lives, figuring out who they are and where they belong as humans,” she said in an interview with PEOPLE last year.

Terry also told the outlet that Ace has ‘always been incredibly strong-willed’ and described him as a ‘very complex, layered person.’

He added that Ace is “going through a lot of self-exploration right away.”
