Greta Thunberg, 20, was manhandled by police after she joined dozens of anti-coal mine demonstrators in Germany.
According to reports, the eco-warrior had been at a protest in Lützerath when dozens of police officers in riot gear removed around 300 people from the event, including Thunberg.
Protesters arrived in the village after it was announced that it would be demolished for the expansion of a coal mine.
Thunberg was seen smiling as police officers picked her up, the German publication Bild reported.
Reports also said that police fired pepper spray when violent clashes broke out between demonstrators.
Before the Saturday protest, Greta took to Twitter and said: “We are currently in Lützerath, a German village threatened to be demolished for an expansion of a coal mine.
“People have been resisting for years.”
She continued: “This Saturday 14/1 I will join activists in Lützerath to defend the village and stop the coal mine. Join us at 12.00 to protect life, and put people over profit!
“The science is clear, the most affected people are clear: no more fossil fuels!”
Demonstrators have occupied the village for months in a bid to stop the demolition. Environmentalist groups also said that expanding the Garzweiler mine by bulldozing the village would cause high levels of greenhouse gas emissions.
But government and utility company RWE argues that the coal mine is needed to ensure the energy security of the country.
More than 1,000 police officers were deployed to remove demonstrators and demolish their makeshift buildings and temporary tree house structures.
In the first few days of the operation to evict climate activists, police said that more than 470 people had already left the area.
