An elderly woman fell unconscious and didn’t wake up for 12 hours after eating a cupcake laced with cannabis at a wedding.
The bizarre food poisoning took place in Devon, UK, where a couple from Torquay was celebrating their wedding.
While everything went as planned, the event took an unexpected turn for the worse when a grandmother in her 60s fell unconscious moments after eating a cupcake laced with cannabis.
As the woman recalled, she was completely “oblivious” for 12 hours after eating the compromised dessert, whereas her relatives had trouble finding her pulse.
The grandma then woke up at a hospital half a day later after paramedics were called to the reception to take the unresponsive woman in for treatment and observation.
“My sister-in-law told me afterwards that she’d had trouble finding my pulse and that I was grey in color,” the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, explained.
“I was completely oblivious to what was going on until I woke up at 3 am the following day at the hospital.
“Between the wedding and the reception, cupcakes were randomly placed on the table. Unbeknown to me, they contained drugs. Had I known that, I never would have touched one.”
According to the grandma, another wedding guest fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital after eating the cupcakes.
She also explained that one child wanted to try the cupcakes but was luckily stopped by his parents just in time to prevent a potential disaster.
“It’s horrific to think that the perpetrator sat and watched all of this unfold, and then just disappeared with no accountability,” the woman added.
“You never think spiking is going to happen to you. This experience has been a massive wake-up call. I would never put any drug into my body, but when it’s hidden in something else, that choice is taken away from you.”
While it is not clear who was behind the reception sabotage, the bride and groom allegedly explained that the perpetrator had left before they could be stopped.
