Mallory Giles from Ohio told officers on Thursday that she did not know why she did it but reports said that she allegedly stole $50,000 from the elderly man.

The home carer is currently being held in the Erie County Jail with a bond set at $560,000.

It was in April when the 93-year-old man’s daughter noticed odd transactions on his bank statements and called the police.

The patient had reportedly given his credit card to Giles so she could buy his essentials.

However, body camera footage shows police telling Giles: “You basically outfitted your entire house with all of these credit cards.”

Speaking to Fox 8, Lt. Scott Dahlgren said: “We believe there were shoes that were included in that, clothing, furniture for her residence, wall décor, outside lawn care items.”

During the investigation, the patient had to be rushed to a hospital where he was successfully revived by doctors. It was discovered that he had several powerful narcotics in his body.

Dahlgren said they believe the health care aide had been mixing opioids into the elderly man’s food to keep him unaware of what she was doing with his credit cards.

“She was trying to keep him medicated to a point where he wasn’t looking at bank statements and credit card statements and things like that, where she could just handle those kinds of things without him noticing,” he said.

Dahlgren continued: ‘It’s sad. It’s very upsetting that somebody would take advantage of someone who’s just so vulnerable, you know. Unfortunately, our elderly are vulnerable in society and people continue to prey on them.

“We’re just glad that a family member noticed it when they did, instead of it actually going any further.”
