A married woman’s lover was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he brutally killed her by stabbing her over 50 times in her own home.
According to reports, 44-year-old David Bonola pleaded guilty to manslaughter as part of a ‘sweetheart’ plea deal with the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
It was in April when he murdered Orsolya Gaal in her home by stabbing her while her son was in his bedroom.
Bonola then stuffed the mother’s body in a duffel bag before dragging it away.
The two had a secret affair but the murder occurred after Gaal decided to end their romance.
Despite admitting to brutally killing the woman, Bonola was allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter but not murder. This means that he was saved from a life sentence and he may also get out of jail in his 50s.
Many were shocked by the decision and said it was indicative of New York’s soft-on-crime policies.
However, the Queens District Attorney insisted that Gaal’s family agreed.
“That was the agreement made between the defense attorney and the people. The victims were consulted along the way,” they told Daily Mail.
DA Melinda Katz also said in a statement: “This was a brutal killing, and no amount of prison time can bring the victim back to her loved ones.
“Today’s sentencing, however, provides a measure of justice and I hope the victim’s family can rest easier knowing that the person responsible was held fully accountable.”
Gaal’s grieving husband, Howard Klein, hasn’t spoken out about his wife’s affair or murder. He also declined to comment on Bonola’s sentence.
One internet user commented: “I don’t care if the family was on board. This trash should be given a life sentence so other women won’t have to worry about him. This sentence is ridiculous.”
Another said: “He’s one horrible evil individual and when he gets out in 20 years he’ll do it again.”
