According to the reports, the pair were fighting about money before the argument took a turn for the worse and Chae Kyong told his wife he would “rather kill her than give her his retirement money.”

After being punched and duct taped, the victim managed to make an emergency call via her Apple watch.

Her estranged partner then dragged her to the garage, destroyed her watch, and took her away from her home in his Dodge Caravan.

After arriving at a secluded area, the man dug a hole before stabbing his wife in the chest and burying her alive. The probable cause document also notes that the suspect placed a heavy tree on top of his victim.

“After being put in the ground she could hear her husband walking around the hole and dirt being put on top of her,” the document reads.

Several hours into her ordeal, Young Sook managed to crawl her way out of the shallow grave and run into the unknown until she came across a home where the owners helped her call 911.

As court documents state, the woman was rescued at around 1 am on Monday. At the time, she still “had duct tape wrapped around her neck, lower face and ankles.”

“There was also extensive bruising to her legs, arms and head and her clothing and hair were covered in dirt,” the court filing reads.

As the authorities explained after the incident, the police responded to Young Sook’s home on Sunday afternoon shortly after the distress call she made via her Apple watch, sparking an investigation into her disappearance.

Meanwhile, Young Sook pleaded with the judge not to grant her estranged husband bail because she was afraid for her life.

“Please no bail. I am really afraid for my life. I just want to emphasize that I fear him so much and he will kill me again if he is out,” she said.

Chae Kyong is currently held without bail and is facing first-degree kidnapping, assault, and attempted murder charges.
