Jesenea Miron from Moreno Valley was taken into custody on Friday after she attempted to kidnap a baby from the Riverside University Health System Medical Center, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to reports, she posed as a new nurse so she could enter the maternity ward before taking a baby but she was immediately stopped by hospital staff.

It is not clear if Miron was eyeing a specific child or she randomly picked one. By the time law enforcement and security arrived, she had already fled the scene.

Police said that the kidnapper was apprehended at her home on Weber Street. Other ‘items of evidentiary value’ were discovered inside her home.

Court documents obtained by Fox 11 showed that Miron told officers it would be ‘easy’ to abduct an infant.

Authorities are still investigating how the woman managed to enter the ward without setting off any alarm bells.

Jennifer Cruikshank, the CEO of Riverside, said the hospital system “has multiple layers of security to protect the safety and well-being of patients and staff.”

The New York Times also reported that security is being ‘reviewed and reinforced.’

Another shared: “In my hubby’s hospital the baby has a name tag on the wrist but an electric tag on the ankle Judy for that reason if baby get near a door the alarm goes off.”

A third asked: “How did she get in the unit and, more importantly, how did she escape? If she got out I wonder if she could have escaped with the baby?”
