37-year-old Priscilla Ann Salais from San Antonio, Texas, was apprehended after her two step-grandchildren were found tied and beaten at her Highland Park property.

While the authorities were performing a welfare check on the one-year-old girl and her two-year-old brother, who were staying with their step-grandmother, they came upon a gruesome scene that led to the arrest of Salais.

As the police revealed, they found the baby girl hogtied and beaten in one of the bedrooms at Priscilla’s home. Meanwhile, her older brother was found in a cage-like playpen where he was playing by himself.

The authorities also claimed that both children were “heavily soiled” and in distress during the welfare check.

“Child endangerment carries a maximum sentence of two years, but I’ll tell you I — what she did to these children is, I mean, it’s unforgivable. Two years seems like nothing compared to what she did to these children,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus expressed following the woman’s arrest.

According to the reports, the children’s condition came to light after the authorities performed a welfare check due to Child Protective Services receiving reports of alleged physical abuse taking place at the residence.

Following Salais’ arrest, the kids’ mother, Isabella, spoke to KSAT and claimed that she was “sorry that it got this far” as she expressed her desire to be reunited with her children who have since their rescue been put in CPS custody.

Following her arrest, the 37-year-old step-grandmother insisted that the charges against her were “bullsh**” and that the media need to “get their facts straight” as she suggested she wasn’t responsible for the children’s neglect.

Defending the woman was also her father, Billy Salais, who told KSAT reporters that he believes someone else must have done this to the kids.

“The kids she’s taken into her home out of the kindness of her heart is because that’s the kind of person she is. Now this sensationalized version that’s being portrayed on her is totally inaccurate,” he said.
