More than half a million dollars were raised for the groom whose wife was killed just moments after their wedding.
34-year-old Samantha Miller and 36-year-old Aric Hutchinson were leaving their wedding reception on Friday night when a suspected drunk driver plowed into the couple at great speed.
The incident took place at Folly Beach in South Carolina where the newlywed couple was enjoying a golf cart ride along with two wedding guests following their reception.
That’s when 25-year-old Jamie Komoroski struck the small vehicle with her car while driving at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.
After the horrific collision, Miller died almost immediately. Her husband and the other two passengers were rushed to the hospital where Aric remains in a serious condition as of this writing.
“Sam died from her injuries. Aric is in serious condition and has had one of two reconstruction surgeries, numerous broken bones, and a brain injury, he will have a long recovery. Ben and Brogan were also injured, Ben seriously,” the groom’s mother revealed in a heartbreaking statement.
The family has since also launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for Samantha’s funeral and the victims’ medical expenses.
“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows. Aric has lost the love of his life,” Annette Hutchinson added.
“This fundraiser will help pay for Sam’s burial and medical costs for Aric and his family.”
The fundraiser has since already raised over $560K for the young man who lost his wife just hours after they got married.
In the comments, well-wishers also voiced their support for Aric and the couple’s families.
“Condolences for your loss, and prayers for the recovery of your loved ones. This horrific story breaks my heart. Condolences from Canada,” someone wrote after making a donation.
“There are no words for this, I’m so very sorry for your loss and sending love and best wishes to all involved,” another said.
