Cody Briseno said he was 8 to 10 feet away from where Salvador Ramos, 18, crashed his truck on May 24. At first, he wanted to help the teenager as his vehicle was in a ditch just outside the school.

But when he saw the teen’s AR-15 rifle and sinister face while walking to the school, the funeral worker said he ran over to try to stop him.

But while running towards the school, Briseno said that police asked where he was going.

He remembered telling the cop: “I’m going in and try to stop them. I told him that (Ramos is) already inside the school.”

However, he said that the police told him not to intervene and to shut up, according to NBC News.

“I see him crawling out the passenger window. I tell him ‘Hey man, are you OK? Are you alright?’” Briseno told NBC News.

While he was offering a helping hand, Briseno said that the teen returned to his truck and pulled out an AR-15 assault rifle.

“He looks back at me with this evil look, and I see that rifle,” he continued.

Briseno and his co-worker both ran away from the teen. “He was shooting at both of us,” he recalled. “He was aiming that barrel right at me and my coworker.”

The funeral worker said he even called his wife and told her to bring his gun as he rushed toward Robb Elementary School, where cops stopped him.

Briseno said he felt guilty as he had to prepare funerals for some of the 19 children and two teachers at Hillcrest Funeral Home.

“My intention was to stop him, and I feel guilty, man, because I couldn’t stop him,” he said. “It always plays in my head. I loaded those caskets down.”
