WNBA star Brittney Griner is reportedly facing hellish conditions at her prison in Russia.

According to reports from local media outlets, the basketball superstar has begun her sentence at the IK-2 penal colony that’s located in Yavas. But the problem is how the institution is famed for being notorious.

The famous WNBA star is also highlighted to be facing homophobia, racism, and tough working conditions that go as long as 16 hours in a day.

After losing her appeals case, Griner was reportedly sentenced to nine years in prison on August 6. The Russian authorities claim she was caught entering the nation with cannabis oil and that went against the country’s travel policy.

Those individuals who are believed to be closest to Griner mentioned how she was sentenced to nine years in prison and it just took an emotional and physical toll on her. “She is trying to stay strong”- one insider explained but the fact that she is so far away from those she loves makes it just so much harder.

A recent report by TMZ outlined how the conditions she will be facing are inhumane.

Many called them to be similar to slavery as that’s how people that have served there have gone on to describe it. Moreover, she will not be getting any VIP status and would be treated like any other, as mentioned in another report.

The fact that there is zero to very little medical care and long working days just goes to show how dire the situation can turn out to be. “Griner is expected to witness homophobia and racism from not only other inmates present inside but also from guards situated at the facility.
