A trans cheerleader faces an assault citation after allegedly choking a girl who called her a man.
25-year-old Averie Chanel Medlock was booted out of Ranger College cheerleading camp after attacking a 17-year-old teammate identified only as Karleigh.
According to the reports, Medlock lashed out at the teenage girl after the latter made transphobic comments in her presence.
Following the assault, Karleigh and another cheerleader hid inside a locker room and waited for the police to arrive and take Medlock out of the campus.
After the physical confrontation, Medlock spoke out on Facebook and passed all the blame on Kerleigh saying:
“’Well guys I’m officially retired as a cheerleader as of last night at 5:30 AM. A girl on the team was being very disrespectful and told me I am a MAN with a PENIS and that [guys] should not be on the team,” the 25-year-old said.
“I stood up for myself and she called her mom and dad because she was scared because I [stood] up for myself. Her father said ‘she still has testosterone and a penis and I will kill anyone who comes after my daughter.’”
While Medlock initially admitted “barely” touching Karleigh, she later contradicted her original statement saying there was no physical violence during the argument.
Dismissing Medlock’s claims and suggesting the altercation was much worse than the 25-year-old was willing to admit was Karleigh’s father, Mike Jones, who arrived at the scene along with the police.
“I ask you what you would have done when receiving a phone call at 1 o’clock in the morning from your daughter stating they had locked themselves in the room with other girls, after this person said ‘You want to fight,’ and proceeded to put their hands around my daughter’s neck,” Jones said.
The angry father also hit back at Medlock for accusing them of targeting her because of her race and gender while asking people to share his story because he’s been “silent for too long.”
“They knew that I was trans. They knew that I was different from all the other girls. It wasn’t a big deal until her dad came up there and made a scene,” Medlock said in an interview with KTAB in response to her story going viral.
“I was kicked off the team for assumptions because of the dad’s assumptions of what happened.”
