A ten-year-old survivor of the Uvalde school massacre has spoken out and recalled the terrifying moment the shooter stormed her classroom.
Speaking to Fox News, Khloe Torres revealed she was in her classroom with her friends and teacher Irma Garcia when 18-year-old Salvador Ramos walked into Robb Elementary School and began shooting.
According to the young girl, she and her classmates were watching a movie when their teacher told them they were “going to go on a quick lockdown” due to an active shooter situation.
“So, my friend, he got up and turned off the TV because that’s what we had to do. And, right when she went out to find the key and lock the door from the outside, we heard gunshots,” Khloe said.
As Garcia was trying to lock the door, Ramos showed up outside the door and forced his way inside the classroom.
He then allegedly screamed “you’ll die!” when one of Khloe’s classmates called the police using a friend’s phone.
“I was scared… To be like, ‘what were my last words going to be?’ I was really scared,” the young student said.
While Garcia tried her best to protect her students by placing herself between them and the shooter, gunfire erupted in the classroom shortly after.
“He shot my friend and my teachers. And then after that, he said ‘goodnight,’ and he started shooting everybody,” Khloe recalled.
“He shot the girl next to me, and she said, ‘I’ve been shot!’ And, I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want him to come over and shoot me. So, I stayed quiet. He came back and shot her again because she wouldn’t be quiet.”
As Khloe revealed, the gunman eventually moved to the neighboring classroom where he opened fire before walking out into the hallway.
After the gunshots stopped, the brave 10-year-old ran into the other classroom in search of survivors.
Following the school massacre, Khloe’s parents confirmed that the girl will attend the funerals of her teachers and classmates. They insist, however, that she quits school and be homeschooled instead.
“The way everything was handled was so poor. I have to be able to trust that she will be safe,” Khloe’s mom, Jamie, said.
