Ellen Greenberg’s death was initially ruled as a homicide before it was changed to suicide.

But investigators are now reviewing evidence and said that it may have been stage to look like a suicide.

According to reports, she had 10 stab wounds to the back of her head and neck, and ten more to her chest, abdomen, and stomach. A knife was also found still plunged into the heart.

Evidence suggests the crime scene was staged based on the angle of dry blood across her face and the position her lifeless body was discovered.

The case has been given to the Chester District Attorney’s Office for review.

Speaking to Fox News digital, forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht said: “In all my years of experience, and all of the homicides that I’ve done, and suicides, I’ve never seen anything like this,” adding that suicide is ‘highly unlikely.’

Police claimed at that time that the door of Greenberg’s flat was locked from the inside. Her fiancé told investigators that when he returned home, he had to kick the door open and that’s when he found her with a knife still in her chest.

He called 911 and told the dispatcher that Greenberg had stabbed herself.

“I can’t see anything… there’s nothing broken… Ellie! I think she hit her head,” he added. “Oh my god! She stabbed herself… she fell on a knife… there is a knife sticking out of her heart.”

In 2019, Greenberg’s family urged the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office to re-review the case and it was handed off to Pennsylvania Attorney General.

The Attorney General’s Office said at that time: “Unfortunately, after four years of work, new expert testimony and information has been publicly alleged but withheld from our investigators and new accusations of a conflict of interest have been made against our office.”
