A 36-year-old man who tortured his 11-year-old stepson has received multiple life sentences.
Timothy Lee Wilson was handed multiple life sentences for torturing the young boy, who was saved after a waitress secretly showed him a sign asking if he needed help.
A judge in Orlando handed him the maximum sentence for each charge, amounting to four life sentences, News 6 reported.
During sentencing, Judge Wayne C. Wooten said: “You have utterly failed, not only in the role of parent, but simply in the role of human being.
“For those reasons I’m going to impost the sentence that he law allows me to impose, although candidly, in many ways, I feel like it is short of what you thoroughly and richly deserve.”
The boy’s biological mother, Kristen Swann, also faces neglect charges as she was aware of the abuse.
Flaviane Carvalho, the waitress who rescued the 11-year-old by secretly showing him a sign that read ‘Do you need help? Ok,’ said that she was pleased with the sentencing.
Speaking to Daily Mail, she said: “I feel relieved and with a sense of justice gratitude that he got what he deserved.
“I also feel happy because the best thing is that the boy now lives a healthy life, protected and receiving a lot of love, affection, care and respect.”
Carvalho also said that the child has already been reunited with his biological dad.
During a press conference in 2021, Carvalho recalled the moment she noticed that the young boy had bruises over his arms and face.
“I could see he had a big scratch between his eyebrows. A couple of minutes later, I saw a bruise on the side of his eye. So I felt there was something really wrong.”
She said that she wrote a sign asking the boy if he needed help. “And this is when he nodded, yes.”
Police arrived and took the boy to the hospital where doctors discovered that he had extensive bruising covering most of his body.
Police also said that the parents subjected him to different forms of abuse.
“What this child had gone through, it was torture,” a spokesperson for the police said. “Seeing what that 11-year-old had to go through, it shocks your soul.”
