Singer Naomi Judd passed away at the age of 76 just a day before her Hall of Fame induction.
The 76-year-old country star was found dead on Saturday a day before her family saw her name etched into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Naomi’s daughters Wynonna and Ashley have since revealed that their mother had succumbed to a “mental illness.”
Speaking out on Sunday was also the country singer’s husband, Larry Strickland, who asked for privacy during this “heartbreaking time.”
“Naomi Judd’s family request privacy during this heartbreaking time. No additional information will be released at this time,” he said.
After Naomi’s Sunday Hall of Fame induction, however, insiders with knowledge of the singer claimed that she had taken her own life.
Previously, Judd opened up about the topic of depression and mental illnesses on several occasions.
In 2018, she told People that “suicidal behavior accompanies many behavioral brain disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression” as she called it preventable.
“For everyone mourning the death of someone who committed suicide, an inevitable question arises: Why did this happen? Unfortunately, we don’t have very good answers,” she said.
In her 2018 essay, the country singer added: “To understand this issue better, we have to bring the study of suicide into mainstream neuroscience and treat the condition like every other brain disorder.
“People who commit suicide are experiencing problems with mood, impulse control and aggression, all of which involve discrete circuits in the brain that regulate these aspects of human experience, but we still don’t understand how these circuits go haywire in the brains of suicide victims.”
Speaking to the People magazine while promoting her 2016 book, Naomi also suggested that “nobody can understand” how depression feels like unless they’ve had it.
“Think of your very worst day of your whole life – someone passed away, you lost your job, you found out you were being betrayed, that your child had a rare disease – you can take all of those at once and put them together and that’s what depression feels like,” she said.
As of this writing, the beloved musician’s official cause of death remains unknown.
Our thoughts remain with Naomi’s family and friends during these challenging times.
