The horrifying stunt took place in London where the 63-year-old reality TV judge was taken to the auditions stage by a masked magician who put a hood over his head.

The contestant then allegedly poured lighter fluid all over Simon’s hood before locking his head in a box with an open front side and setting the judge on fire, The Mirror reported.

“The audience screamed, judges were out of their seats screaming, everyone was totally stunned,” a witness said.

Fortunately, however, the whole thing was part of the act and Simon appeared unhurt by the stunt.

“The flames were put out and Simon got up looking a bit shell-shocked while the rest of the judges breathed a sigh of relief as he returned to the panel,” the onlooker continued.

Following the ‘near-death’ experience, Cowell later said: “I could feel liquid being poured on me but I had no idea it was lighter fluid!”

His co-judge, Alesha Dixon, added: “Simon, he set your entire head on fire! It was very scary, you are a very brave man to do that. It made me realize how much we care about you, I was ready to come up there and rescue you.”

Chipping in with his opinion on the stunt was also Britain’s Got Talent’s new judge, Bruno Tonioli, who suggested the scene reminded him of the horror movie Saw.

“It reminded me of a scene from that movie, Saw, seeing Simon’s head in that contraption. I was captivated, I’ve never seen anything like that,” he said.
