Seven people died in a horror Interstate crash after a wrong-way vehicle collided with a car at great speed.
The collision took place at 2 am on Sunday on Interstate 90 in McHenry County, Illinois, some 50 miles from Chicago.
According to the reports, the head-on collision took place after a woman drove her van the wrong way and plowed into another car.
It is believed that both vehicles immediately burst into flames after the collision.
The driver of the van and five children who were traveling with her died in the crash. The female driver of the car that was struck by the van also died in the accident.
While the names of the victims remain to be shared, it has since been confirmed that one person survived the massive crash and was airlifted to the hospital.
The survivor reportedly suffered severe injuries and their current condition remains unclear.
Following the crash, the police were forced to shut down lanes on both sides of the highway pending investigation and cleaning.
It wasn’t until 11:30 am that the section of the highway was fully reopened.
The tragic news comes just a day after Grace Coleman, 23, was sentenced to at least 21 years in prison after running a red light and slamming into the car of a family of five that was looking for Christmas lights.
While Coleman survived the crash, parents Gabriela Andrade, 28, and Henry Eduardo Saldana-Mejia, 27, both died in the collision, leaving their three young daughters orphaned.
After the incident, Coleman attempted to flee the scene but was soon apprehended by the police.
