While the mother admitted the teen didn’t have many friends and mostly kept to himself, she hit back at rumors suggesting she and her son had a toxic relationship.

Reyes also didn’t address rumors claiming her son left her to live with his grandmother, Celia Gonzalez, due to her alleged drug addiction.

“My son wasn’t a violent person. I’m surprised by what he did,” Reyes told DailyMail.com.

“I pray for those families. I’m praying for all of those innocent children, yes I am. They [children] had no part in this.”

She added: “I had a good relationship with him. He kept to himself; he didn’t have many friends.”

Reyes is currently staying at a hospital together with her mother whom Salvador reportedly shot moments before committing the killings at the school.

Speaking out was also Rolando Reyes, Salvador’s grandfather, who claimed he didn’t know the teen had purchased weapons.

It is believed that the teenager legally bought two AR-15 style rifles in the days following his 18th birthday.

“Sometimes I’d take him to work with me. Not all the time, but sometimes. This past year he didn’t go to school. He didn’t graduate. You would try to tell him but kids nowadays they think they know everything,” Mr. Reyes said of his grandson in an interview with ABC News.

Though the shooter’s mother insisted they had a good relationship, the grandfather suggested Salvador moved out because of the “problems” he had with his mother.
