A Russian warship was reportedly blown up by a Ukrainian missile and severely damaged.
On Wednesday, the Moskva missile cruiser, one of the most important ships in Russia’s Black Sea fleet, has been damaged following an alleged missile strike.
As the Odesa governor claimed, the notorious warship that targeted Snake Island and its Ukrainian defenders weeks ago was severely damaged by a Neptune missile, a Ukrainian anti-ship cruise missile.
Following the claim, Russia admitted that the cruiser was severely damaged while claiming that the crew has been evacuated.
While Ukraine insisted the warship was hit by a Neptune missile, Russian officials said the cruiser was damaged after ammunition on board blew up.
“Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea caused very serious damage to the Russian ship. Glory to Ukraine!” Maksym Marchenko, the governor of Odesa, announced on Telegram.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian presidential advisor Oleksiy Arestovych called the incident a “surprise.”
“A surprise happened with the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet,” he said.
“It burns strongly. Right now. And with this stormy sea it is unknown whether they will be able to receive help. There are 510 crew members. We don’t understand what happened.”
As of this writing, the extent of the damage done to Russia’s prize ship remains unknown. Due to poor weather conditions in the region, it is also not clear whether the ship will stay afloat.
