Russian soldiers are assaulting and hanging women over the age of 60 because they do not have the strength to run away, Ukrainian MPs claimed.
MP Lesia Vasylenko said many elderly women had taken their own lives after they were assaulted to escape the violence. But others were so vulnerable they couldn’t escape from invading troops.
Vasylenko, who went to the House of Commons with fellow MPs Alona Shkrum, Olena Khomenko and Maria Mezentseva, said that Putin had “change his strategy to target the most vulnerable groups of women and children.”
“Most of them were executed after being rap*d or took their own lives,” she said.
“The main problem is that victims and families do not have the strength or capacity to come forward.”
“The ladies who were raped and suffered sexual violence, some of them were also hanged,” Mezentseva, the MP for Servant of the People Party, added.
“These are the facts we are gathering for evidence on war crimes and to take to the ECHR.”
They called on the Government to provide humanitarian support within the country so victims can receive ‘proper assistance.’
According to reports, the vulnerable groups of women have been targeted.
“It’s a tragedy that no one has found ways to help the victims,” Vasylenko said.
“They do not have the strength or the capacity to come forward.”
The MPs echoed the comments of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that there was no point in staying alive if you could not stop innocent lives from being lost.
Addressing US Congress on Wednesday, Zelensky said to politicians: “Now I’m almost 45 years old. Today my age, stopped when the heart of more than 100 children stopped beating. I see no sense in life, that cannot stop the deaths.”
The MPs in the Commons also said: “We feel very much the same.”
