As the prosecutors claim, Shishimarin shot the civilian in the head while the latter was sitting in his car. The alleged murder took place in the village of Chupakhivka during the first week of Russia’s invasion.

The soldier has since been arrested and brought to court in Solomyanskyy, Kyiv, where he was placed in a glass cage while reporters rallied at the courthouse to witness the historic moment.

The case takes place as the country’s top prosecutors have reportedly begun investigating thousands of reports of Russian soldiers killing, harassing, and torturing Ukrainian civilians.

As of this writing, it is still not clear how the 21-year-old soldier will plead, his attorney, Victor Ovsyanikov, confirmed.

While the defense attorney agreed that the evidence against his client is overwhelming, it will be up to the Kyiv court to decide what evidence will be valid and allowed during the proceedings.

We can also confirm that at least two other trials for similar cases will kick off in the following days as Ukraine began cracking down on Russian troops committing alleged war crimes in the country.
