The US Supreme Court has reportedly overruled Roe v Wade by a 6 to 3 majority, saying the country’s constitution does not confer the right of abortion to anyone.
The news marks the end of the constitutional protection being provided to women for years in regard to terminating their pregnancies.
According to local media reports, the historic overruling of Roe v. Wade was definitely not something that many people saw coming and it is believed that the new ruling is being looked down upon by many in the country as it was their last hope in the fight against unwanted pregnancies.
The decision was announced during the morning hours of Friday, putting the country in a huge state of shock as it upheld the Mississippi 15-week restrictive abortion ban.
The decision that was read out loud by the judge included the following: “The Constitution doesn’t confer the right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled!” This means the right to regulate and grant authority for abortions is now being given back to the people and their elected representatives.
The decision was stated to be written by the conservative Justice Samuel Alito as well as the court who seemed to be split with the 6-3 decision between liberals and the conservatives.
Meanwhile, sources claim that a number of leaked passages managed to make their way into the final version of the draft and therefore the result was more or less the same thing. They were now tossing the decision of abortion laws back to the states.
